Proposal [back]

Oil on Panel | 9" x 13" | 2010

The background is ominous and gray with the treetops acting as storm clouds. Within the glass house this young couple's new beginning is like a mirage of an imagined future; the construction of the house implying it may not be what it seems. The forest is a combination of inspirations from Botticelli, Rufus Porter, and my surroundings at my home in Maine. The young girl's recoiling posture is another reference to the annunciation scene in my other painting, "Wish You Were Here."
